I’ll be leading this Sundays ride-out – as per usual, meet up in the Workies car park - set off time is 10am sharp (that’ll be a first!).

The intended (purposely unpublished) route takes in a stops at Broxton, the Ponderosa  on the Horsehoe Pass,  Bala Lake, Betws-y-Coed and a couple of others – each around an hours riding apart.

The total distance is going to be over 230 miles, if you fill-up before arriving at the Workies then you should be able to get to Bala and will be able to fill-up there (where I will be topping-up).

That’s the plan – but, looking at the weather forecast for Sunday, it seems it is definitely going to rain in Wales in the afternoon and early evening – so if you are coming along, prepare to get soaked if you don‘t have waterproofs with you.

If the weather is too awful (or looks like it’s going to be really bad where I am heading) I may change the route on a whim and point my bike (and therefore the people following me) towards clearer skies  - it’s and adventure after all.

The only other points to mention are that I will be sticking to speed limits so, unless you are dragging along at the back don‘t expect this to be a fast ride (this also depends on how many riders turn up – the more riders the slower the ride, inevitably).

If anyone wants to know anything about the route, don’t ask, ’cos I ain’t gonna tell you – that way you will never realise we are all lost and just think I am taking you down some interesting roads.

Here’s hoping the weather stays rain free on Sunday

Thanks to all the riders who turned up on Sunday (despite my warnings of inclement weather). Nine of us set off on what turned out to be a very pleasant day.

There were no issues with the ride, which was completed successfully - apart from going round the well signposted (not) Wrexham, which we saw reasonable amounts of.

Other than that hiccough, things went really well, just the odd spot of rain, some friendly sheep at the Ponderosa, and sun that was beating down at Betws-y-Coed. Oh yes… and a sneaky sneaker of a policeman on the wonderful A4212 coming out of Bala.

Luckily we had plenty of warning from other road users coming the other way.

Some riders had to get home earlier than others so we ended up with 6 riders at the McDonalds (for coffee only, you understand) at Mold at around 7ish. The day was that good we decided to carry on riding and extend the “route” rather than traipsing home on the moronway. We chose to go back through Wrecsam (especially spelt for our Welsh readers), Congleton and then onto the A34, riders dropping off at appropriate points for the journey home. The downpour started around 8.15pm – of course it did – everyone who had them had taken off their waterproofs, we should have known that would have encouraged the rain.

Anyway I got home around 10.15pm after being thoroughly soaked for nearly two hours, but prior to that, having a really good day out on the bike.

Thanks, once again, for turning up.
