Ow Dooo!

The first Tuesday evening Ride-Out of the year takes place on the 19th April ( a Tuesday would you believe!!!) and will be led by Mr Mark Bradley, aka Bradders.

As usual for a Tuesday, the Ride-Out will leave the car park at the rear of the Workies at 7pm, Club Ride-Out rules apply, and all are welcome.

Unfortunately the situation with the Ride-Out Registration phone hasn't yet been sorted, (although it is in hand), so if you are going to go along can you post your intention on this thread so that Mark will know if it is worth turning up. According to the 10 day forecast the weather is very favourable. ( http://uk.weather.com/ )

If you wish to view the route beforehand, please click the following link;

If you would like to import the route into your Sat-Nav please email rideoutcoordinator@poyntonmotorcycleclub.co.uk and I will send you the file. Should you need instructions on how to import the route into your Sat-Nav click this link;

Enjoy the ride!

If you would prefer you can text me on 07866302139 before 6pm on Tuesday.

I also intend organizing a rideout on the 29th, “escape the wedding”, destination to be confirmed.

I would like to apologise to the two new members who were lost on yesterday evenings ride out, this should never accrue if the ride out rules are adhered to (could someone make the ride out policy a “sticky” or locked thread).

Two ride outs this year and we have had issues on both, in order to  prevent a recurrence my suggestion to future ride out leaders is to nominate a last man however small the group or short the ride, this way only when the second man sees the last man he moves off and rejoins the group.

Also if a newer member or less experienced rider is second in the group and fails to mark the junction a older member (and ther'es a few of those) should step in a mark the junction.

My apologies again to the two who were lost, i hope you got home safely and without incident.

Mark.

Mark, you are totally correct about this and I can tell you it was discussed at length in last night's Committee meeting.

If we go out as a group then should all take some responsibilty for the other members ,particularly new ones.

It seems that the prospect of being “left behind” has led to incidents where the second man has not marked junctions and the other safety net of agreed rendezvous points has been ignored.

If a member does not want to mark a junction then stay away from the lead rider or if there is no other option then as you say the next one back should do it.

Tuesday was unfortunate as it had gone dark and one of the group went off home without telling us and yes we had no back marker.

Changes will be made I hope we don't have to go back to the old system of roping the bikes together.

Mark, I was going to respond but Ian beat me to it, albeit with virtually the same opinions. However, I will take my opinion one step further and say that if people don't want to mark a junction then they shouldn't bother turning up for the Ride-Out!

We are a club and we should ALL do our bit to help things run smoothly, and how difficult is it for someone to stop and wait for their fellow club members if they've been instructed to do so? There are people that attend the Ride-Outs that use their nouse and automatically mark the junction if they think that it may need marking without being instructed. Let's face it, we're all fallible and it is easy for the Leader to forget to give instructions to mark a junction, but the person who is second in the group should also take some responsiblity and consider their fellow members.

I will be posting the instructions for marking the junctions in a locked and pinned thread later and will also include them in the Ride-Out details for forthcoming Ride-Outs. I will also instruct the Leader to brief the attendees before they set off.

I would also like to thank you for leading the Ride-Out on Tuesday.

I was second rider for most of this ride out and I told Mark that I would be going home directly to Macc by the most dirrect route at the mid point stop of the ride out, which is what I did.  At this point Ian was second behind Mark, I tried to sound my horn to indicate I was turning left and also used my indicator in plenty of time to let Mark and Ian know my intention.  Whan Mark and I turned onto the A6 after riding round Bakwell we slowed down to make shure that the rest of the party made it onto the A6, it appeared that they had so Mark speeded up,  there are no obvious turnings off the A6 until you get to Buxton.  Prior to that Ian, who was second at the time marked a junction at one of the roundabouts on the route.  Because Mark had slowed (almost stopped) on the A6 I had assumed that the party was all together at that point, confirmed when Ian passed me approaching Buxton.  I suppose I could have told everyboby that I would be going directly home, not just Mark at the mid point stop as people had come to ecpect me to be the second bike my appoogies for that.  But I am alway prepared to mark junctions on rideouts, as I have done so many times

It appears most of these problems seem to stem from not being able to easily identify the front and back man.

Would it be easier if they were to wear a Hi Viz vest, maybe PMC printed on the back. Could even be different colours, Orange at front and Green at back, bit less common than Yellow.

Quick change of subject, I notice Mark mentioned an “Escape the wedding” ride out for this Friday. Has anything been arranged ?

Gary.
