'Ow Dooo!

The ride-out taking place on Sunday 9th May will be led by yours truly, and we're off to Eric Jones' Cafe in Tremadog, (close to Porthmadog), in Wales.

Eric Jones is a former biker and welcomes bikers at his cafe. He's also a keen mountaineer and is still scurrying up rock faces at the age of 73. He did say that he'd try and have a chat with us about his mountaineering exploits, including chucking himself off some very high buildings.   Surprised  I can't remember what he called the sport, but I reckon it should be called lunacy! (I don't like heights.)

Anyway! The journey there is 128 miles, and the return journey is 126 miles. Planned stops are at Broxton Picnic Area, (junction of the A543 & A41), and at a village pub in Henllann. There will also be the occasional stop to admire the scenery and take photos, so don't forget your camera, (and for those inclined, your wellies!! Lots of sheep!!). Estimated arrival time at the cafe will be about 2 o' clock, leaving around 3pm, with an estimated return time of 7-7.30 pm. Although there are plenty of petrol stations en-route, please ensure you leave the Workies with a full tank. And don't forget to ring the mobile number to let me know you're turning up, - 07554039795

I've just found out that the return journey isn't showing the corect route. The reason for this lies within Google Maps in that it defaults to using motorways, (or highways as they call them).

To correct this, under the list of places in the left pane, click on Show Options, then tick the box next to Avoid Highways, then click on the Get Directions button and the map will then redraw itself to show the correct route.

Apologies for any confusion caused.

Just got back from Rob Dickman’s ride-out to Welsh Wales and want to say how much I really enjoyed myself. Well done Rob, you surpassed yourself, you must have put in a lot of work planning this ride-out, the attention to detail was great. The route and roads were excellent, some of the best I’ve ever ridden. The pit stops were good too and the scenery was fab. I really enjoyed the craic with the other members too, I had a right laugh. Thanks to everyone for an enjoyable day, especially Rob for planning and leading it and Steve for backmarking, just sorry I couldn’t go all the way to Tremmerdog with you.

P.S., Colin was asking about tyre suppliers / fitters. Up to now I have used TST in Warrington. The owner – Tony – used to be Mr Michelin UK back in the 70s and 80s I think when Michelin didn’t deal directly with the GP series; Tony used to provide a lot of the top race teams with their tyre service. TST aren’t the cheapest but I’ve always had really good service there. You can contact Tony on 01925 766 987.

Having said that, Hamish introduced Stef and me to a good bike mechanic called Pablo who has worked in many of the local Stockport and Hyde bike shops during the past few years and has now set up his own business in Hazel Grove just behind McDonald’s off the A6. He needs a couple of days notice to get your choice of tyres in and might want a deposit off you but his prices seem very competitive whether you take the wheels off yourself of just take the bike in complete and he will take the wheels and tyres off. He can service and work on any bike too. Here’s the contact info:

I was lucky enough to do the full day of the ride out and it was all as good as the bit that Paul commented on in his post.  Eric Jones' cafe was a good place to stop, they even have vison cleaning kit available for motorcycling customers and the tea is excellent!  The food looked good too, but I didn't try any because I had a nice piece of Rump Steak waiting for me at home, but I got back too late to cook it.  But I did have it on Monday night instead.  Well done Rob a great route, great roads and views and the Tesco in Porthmadog was no more expensive than Macclesfield.  (But that says things about Macc!).

Yes indeed.

I too find that the cooking of food tends to interfere with my enjoyment of bike runs.

Only last Sunday instead of going on the PMC bike run out , I  found myself instead preparing a delicious Lebanese clam curry with fragrant Lilly rice, and a scrummy homemade wrinkly nan bread.

Only prob was that I forgot to switch  the oven on……………so I could of attended the bike run all along!!

Anyway then got bored and chucked it over next doors garden fence as we don't get on very well.

(We had a dispute over a minor boundary change in 1987).

Bye
