A colleague at work told me about this and I thought it might be of interest to some of you;

Mothers Day Bikers Event March 14th

Thousands of bikers from throughout the country are planning a spectacular mass ride through Wootton Bassett in Wiltshire on Mothers Day to honour soldiers who have lost their life in Afghanistan.

More than 1,000 riders are expected to ride through the Wiltshire town on Sunday March 14th and then gather on the runway at RAF Lyneham. They will then hand over funds raised for the Afghan Heroes charity set up last September by a group of mothers who lost their sons in Afghanistan.

The bikers will descend on Wilstshire from throughout the UK and gather at the Leigh Delamere services on the M4 (junction 17 - eastbound) before the mass ride through Wootton Bassett to RAF Lyneham at 12 noon. This is the RAF base  where the fallen soldiers are repatriated into the UK

Each rider will pay £5 (on the day) and receive a special commemorative Afghan Heroes wristband, which will be their entry pass to the RAF base. All proceeds raised from the ride will go to the Afghan Heroes charity which helps our service personnel in theatre, families of the fallen and returning troops.

If you would like to attend and support the event please register at

http://www.afghanheroes.org.uk

So far over 3,000 bikes have registered and 4,898 riders (including pillions)

Heard about this last night myself. Excellent cause and worthy of support, even though it's a fair old way off. (No I'm not leading a ride down there!!)

If anyone can't make it and still wants to show their support for the troops, I'm helping a mate of mine with planning a ride on June 6th to Colwyn Bay. (Unfortunately it clashes with a PMC ride-out and I don't want to hijack that.)

He'll be making the journey on a BSA M20 which his dad rode during World War II and is using it to transport his dad's ashes so they can be scattered in Colwyn Bay, which is place that was special to him and his wife when they were alive.

He's hoping to get as many other bike clubs in the region to join him en route and once at the destination get as many people to make a donation to the Help for Heroes charity.

I'll post more details nearer the time.

But there's nothing stopping anyone doing both!! Smile

Sorry, I can't do either of these days.  I am doing trailer towing training on 14th March, teaching it for the Dive Club and wll be on the IoM on the 6th June (Mad Sunday) but wish you all the best of luck on both days.
