Ow Dooo!
We, (the Committee), would like your opinions on staging a couple of Ride-Outs to take place over a full weekend next year, (and possbly every year).
Naturally this would involve at least one night's stay and would cater for both those who like to do a spot of camping, and those who prefer to stay in a B&B (i.e. Me). The idea behind it is not only so that you can get to ride to and see places unreachable on a normal Ride-Out, but to increase the social side of the club too.
Possible destinations could include: The Scottish Borders, (Galloway Forest), Keilder Forest/ Northumberland National Park, Bala (North Wales), or the Lake District.
It's not decided yet as to whether these full weekend Ride-Outs would be run in addition to, alongside, or replace a normal Sunday Ride-Out. It depends on your opinions.
Let us know what you think! Either email me by clicking this link rideoutcoordinator@poyntonmotorcycleclub.co.uk (or copy and paste it into your address bar), or let me, or any other Committee member, know at the meeting. Suggestions for destinations would also be welcomed too.
Cheers,
Rob D.

Hi Rob,
We were talking at the Toy Run today and I wouldn't mind organising a trip. I went up to Fort William last Feb and had a cracking time, through the glencoe valley. We thought a good idea would be if once we decided on a destination, then one person plans ride out to it, then another person plans the ride out back home the following day. I'm happy to plan a trip up to Fort William if someone wants to plan one back down?? What sort of distance will people be happy with for the mileage. Is 350 miles about right or too much for a day?
Cheers
Mikee

Thanks Mikee.
I don't mind planning a route home, (or helping to plan a route there), but I think Fort William might be a bit much for some on a one day ride without hitting the motorway.
Unless! We make it a full weekend by riding up on a Friday, spend Saturday riding around and come back on the Sunday. But we need peoples' opinions!

Rob.
I'd be up for a Saturday and Sunday run, doubt I'de be able to get away for two nights though.
I know club policy states rides will be accessable to everyone but what are the likleyhoods of a learner turning up. A two hour blast along the motorway to break the back of a journey opens up a whole new load of possible destinations.

Im with Gary on this one. The ride out rules should be kept to as much as possible to allow everyone to go on the ride outs. But these weekend jobbies could always be classed as 'for full licence holders only'. After all, it wouldnt be in keeping with the clubs ride safe mentality if we let learners ride for 350miles two days running.

I'm with you both on this one, (although I hate motorways). But as I keep saying, it's down to what other people think! Although judging by the response I've had, it'll only be down to about 5 or 6 of us to decide on where/when/how and for how long we go. Hey Ho!
One thing's for sure though, we'll need to make inroads to planning a trip shortly after the New Year as accommodation will need to be booked. And I ain't kipping in a tent unless it's got at least a single bed and and en-suite bathroom, with a ready made breakfast thrown in!
I'm not a woos, I just like the simple things in life.

If we want to avoid motorways how about taking in some of those roads we went on at the MCN north Wales ride last year.
3 hours we could be in Bala after a nice ride down that way.
Do a loop in mid wales, it's a nice area and not to hard to get to.
Personally I wouldn't mind camping, maybe Shell Island near Harlach, that's supposed to be nice.

I would do 350 miles in a day no problem. This year I did that when I rode to Orkney to go diving for a week, I road to Newton Moor in the highlands on the Friday leaving Macc at midday and getting to the hotel at 7.30pm. I took the motorway as far as Glasgow,( about 200 miles) and in Scotland you have no choice after that but A or B roads. I did the return, over 600 miles in one go, stopping just for fuel and food. Got off the ferry at 1pm. Stopped for Lunch and Fuel in Wick and for Tea and Fuel south of Glasgow at 8.30pm, made it home at 12.30am. Only place I got cold was going over Shap. Not suggesting anyone does that of course! but I would need a B&B not a tent. Obviously don't mind a bit of motorway to make distance but not all the way. But you can't do motorway in most of Wales or Scotland

Really that's very interesting………………………………………….but PHAH that's nothing!
Couple of years ago me and the Mrs (And she's a girl!), rode to Bayeux in Franceland in a day….set off from the old homestead at 3am, via ferry at Dover and landed at otel in Bayeux at 6pm Frog time…………so there. Even Stef has done more miles than that, and he is old.

Gary, Ive camped at Shell Island and its pretty good, complete will shop, cafe, bar, shower block and 50ft sand dunes to have a beach party in complete with your portable barby. Could do most of Snodonia then and up there and down through Monmouthshire via lunch at the Skirrid Inn on the way home.
David, Stop boasting about how hard your bum is.
Hamish, Glad to hear your Mrs is a girl
Austin, Mikes Sat Nav is the only model Ive ever seen that has automatic screen rotation. Apparently its so he dosent get lost whilst sliding sideways down the road.

I'm up for camping but it's hard to get any more than a teeny weeny tent and a change of underwear attached to a bike. That might be alright for you blokes but personally I need to take a bit more than that! I believe it's very hard work riding a long way with all that gear, too, and may not leave room for a pillion. (Essential equipment!) Maybe someone could volunteer to come along with a van or large car to take everyone's tents, sleeping bags, beer etc. Ideas?
Phil/Gary: Shell Island sounds great.
H: You missed out what you ate for your tea.
