Hi Folks!

I'll be leading the “I've Got A Numb Bum Mum!” Ride-Out to Hartside Cafe in Cumbria on Sunday 10thMay and I've put together some details for you. There's a set of road-by-road, turn-by-turn instructions complete with maps, a brief summary of the route, (which I'll be handing round at the next meeting), and the AutoRoute files for those who wish to import them into their Sat-Nav. These are all available from http://www.esnips.com/web/May2009Ride-OutDetails/

I did a 'reccie' on the route last weekend and am sure you'll enjoy the route, the scenery, (I suggest you bring a camera), and the awesome roads. I also suggest that you bring some warm clothing as it gets pigging cold as you near Alston and the Hartside Cafe, even on a nice day. (But what do you expect at 1903 feet above sea level?) And if it is a nice day, (hopefully), make sure you bring plenty to drink. although there are places where we can stop and get something.

As long as we set off at 10.00 on the dot, the estimated return time will be somewhere in the region of 7-8pm depending on how many times we stop on the way up and arrive at the Hartside Cafe, which closes at 5pm.

I hope you can come along as I'm sure you'll enjoy the route.

Which bike are you taking Rob?

And don’t forget if PC is tagging along he will require regular pee stops.

I assume the rough mileage will be around 250- 300 miles, if so I will deffo need 2 petrol stops as my bikes, driven hard, do around 100 miles to a tank.

I shall be taking the TDM sir!

I had it re-shod yesterday and bedded the tyres in whilst checking out the last installment of the route.

I did the 'reccie' in the car and my co-pilot couldn't read the instructions properly, so it all went a bit pear-shaped and as time was getting on and it was near his bed time we called it a day. I'm glad though 'cos I got to ride the bike over what turned out to be a fantastic route. Looking forward to the ride even more now.

I think we'll be alright with the stops, as long as we don't linger too much. We set off at 10.30 from Mossley, and after getting lost around Keighley, (don't worry, I know where we're going now), and stopping for a mooch round Colin Appleyard's in Keighley, then at a cafe en-route, which wasted about an hour and a half, we got to Hartside at about 4.15, so we should be alright. Total mileage is more 300 to 350.

 Which bike are you taking?

Not sure yet which bike, got a bad shoulder (rotator cuff probs - had it for a while now), surprisingly I am more comfortable on the Daytona 675 than on the Speed Triple so might go on Little T - unless it’s shitty weather then I I will go on Big T.

I will probably decide on the day.

Then again I may go on the snotter just for a laugh.

Having said all that if PC goes he has an Autocom system on his bike and, of mine, only Big T has a two-way radio so probably will go on that if PC comes out to play.

300 - 350 miles Hmmm. Maybe 2 fuel stops for me en-route assuming full tank to start.

Rob, thanks for showing great leadership skills on the ride-out including: heroism - 100mph down the A66 (or should that be 666 after that awful rain?) in a downpour that would have Noah worried; stoicism - losing riders at an alarming pace and bravely carrying on (we did get back together with most of them); forcefullness - telling people (in the most polite, yet loud way about ensuring corners are marked when YOU say so); enthusiasm - going for it on the back roads (it’s either enthusiasm or lack of fear, don’t know which, maybe both) and, finally, dress sense - a flapping hi-viz deffo made you look like a  gyppo who had stolen a bike.

For any members of the constabulary that may be watching, I must point out that at no time on any road in any condition did I reach 100 mph!  Wink

Re the Hi-Vis. I think I prefer Paul's description of “The Flying Caped Crusader”.
