Ian it was on A Triumph Sprint ST that I had for 3 months just before I got the Honda CBF 1000F and the paint underneath it was perfect and never got a scratch from my tank bag.  I know this is not along test but as you have had no response for over a month I thought I would send you this information

Bit of searching has got me thinking.These paint protection systems were developed for expensive cars to protect the bonnet and wings from stone chips and are installed by professionals.

The bike kits are loads of pre-cut sheets that you have to carefully squidge into place and being careful with bits of plastic isn't top of my skills.
