Does anyone know if the sally army toy run's going ahead this year? and are plod going to marshall or just turn for a free feed like last year.

Just been on their web-site and it's listed as Saturday 6th November. Click here for a poster of the event - http://tinyurl.com/2ubtt7t
Unfortunately, there's nothing about Plod marshalling the event, but if last year's debacle is anything to go by, I reckon they won't be. Also, if I remember correctly, it was decided by Committee that PMC wouldn't be officially supporting it because of the dangerous situations that arose because of the lack of support from Plod. Shame really, because it's been a great occasion for a wonderful cause!
Fiona and myself will probably be going…..if only to see the scooter riders attacking cars again.
Very funny. Shame its not being given the support it deserves and used to enjoy from Mr. Plod but I still think we should take part as a club. Even if we dont want to marshall the event it is still a worthy charity and if we all cry off because its got worse each year then it will eventually just get cancelled and eveyone loses out. Keep the toy run going. AAAAArgh!
I know after last year I said I wouldn't…….but it is for chridy.
Looks as though plod won't be marshalling but the goldwing lot appear to have sorted a leader and static marshalls, they won't be stopping the traffic just marking junctions and it should be going through the centre again.
It'll just be like a normal ride through the third biggest city in england with 500 or so of your mates……..what could possibly go wrong.
I can understand on safety grounds why the club as an organisation can't support it but it doesn't mean we can't go from the club, I'm not tinselling up this year though.

Just been onto the Sally Army and they were as vague as is possible. I managed to prise out of them that there will be marshalls in place, but there will be NO police escort as they won't lend their support. So Plod, this is for you -
When I enquired about the route, I was told that it will be more or less the same as last year, which implied that it will be going over the Mancunian way again. On informing them that this caused learner drivers to break the law last year, they practically said it was their fault for not understanding that the ride was taking place under normal traffic rules! They also said that they had no intention of posting the route on their website.
So! I for one will be forsaking the free bacon butty and cup of tea, even though the event is for charity.*

* Please note these views are not meant to deter any others from taking part should they so wish to.
I think a lot of the problems of last year will be resolved by the fact we now know the police won't be leading the run. Last year it was just complete confusion, especially when the lead bike was arrested.
As long as the route is well marked out and everyone rides within the laws of the highway it should be OK…ish. Getting on the Mancunian way will probably be the main sticking point.
It'll be interesting though to see how the attendence is affected by last years mess.

I would really like to go as a pillion, so if anyone will be joining Fi and Phil and can take me along I would be very grateful!
I think we should “tinsel up” (as Gary put it) though; it just isn't the same otherwise!
(Any excuse to dress as an elf for the day.)

is their a meet up in poynton first or is it a case of meeting there? I'm undecided whether to go or not to this one.
I'll hopefully be bringing an old mate that's not done anything like this before. We'll be heading that way from Macc so could always meet at the workies.
How does 9:15 to leave for 9:30 sound? The run leaves Hyde road at 11:00 so that should give us enough time for a butty, brew and a mooch around.
Rachel, I've just found my santa hat, I might wear that but that's as far as I go this year.

I foresee a credit card melt down for Ian and Phil , take my advice and hide the car keys, not only will this stop them filling the boot with Christmas tat but it will also make the roads much safer .
Wondered how long it would be before you prized open your Macc purse and threw your two'pennies worth in. Will you be doing the toy run on a mobility scooter this year or will you be using your bus pass now your retired?
I will be doing the run on my bike, wearing a daft costume and leaving from the workies at around 9:30am.
Will raise this ( and how to deal with the Bradders menace now hes got too much time on his hands) at the next meeting.

Ha ha, Bradders- as if Ian and Phil would let us get our hands on their credit cards!!
I don't think we'll make it past the food court, the Trafford Centre isn't a place I really want to be on a Saturday in Nov!
I don't want to give up on the Toy Run as it's always been my fave event of the year but last year was just too dangerous and disorganised. Let's see how it goes this year then maybe start a campaign to get everyone going again next year.
Ahh, I miss the good old days…

Phil with your track record for rabble rousing this has me worried, should i expect a visit from you and your militants wielding placards ?, have the activists in poynton against progress (PAP) run out of things to campaign against ? .
PS, i hope to be in attendance on the toy run, especially if your leading it,the prospect of seeing you banged up will be worth braveing the elements for , and IMHO long overdue.
I will be leaving the workies car park at 9:30am on Saturday and riding from there to Showcase Cinema on Hide Road. The main ride leaves there at 11am.
