MCN is to reclaim North Wales from the region’s anti-motorcycle police force by staging a mass ride to Snowdonia National Park.
With your help we plan to defy the force’s treatment of motorcyclists – described as an “enforce and displace” policy by police elsewhere – by descending on the scenic region in our thousands.
North Wales Police discourages innocent motorcyclists from entering the region by indiscriminately stopping as many riders as possible. Led by Deputy Chief Constable Clive Wolfendale, who has proposed banning motorcycles from National Parks, the force admits officers stop around 400 riders every summer weekend including 350 who have committed no offence.
MCN’s aim is to remind the force whose roads they are by exercising our right to enjoy them within the law.
Reclaim North Wales - how you can get involved
- MCN will meet readers at two points at midday on September 13. Go to whichever is easiest for you to get to:
- The first is the Dragon's Rest Cafe, at the Caerwys Junction of the A55 in the north of the region. The second is the Ponderosa Café on the A542 Horseshoe Pass, Llangollen, LL20 8DR.
- We’ll then meet you again at 4pm in the car park of Swallow Falls Hotel, Holyhead Road, Betws-y-Coed, Conwy, LL24 0DW. The site, in Snowdonia National Park, has a restaurant and tavern and is near stunning waterfalls.
- The route you take from one meeting point to the other is up to you. Our plan isn’t to lead you there but simply to encourage you to enjoy the region’s roads within the law by turning up.
Our Reclaim North Wales campaign has the backing of the British Motorcyclists Federation (BMF) and Motorcycle Action Group (MAG), both of which has agreed to join us. We even have the backing of serving and former police officers.
North Wales Police denies it wants to drive riders away but a motorcycle officer in the road policing unit of another force said: “From the outside it certainly looks that way. Four hundred is an enormous number of riders to stop in a weekend. We stop about 1,000 a year.”
A North Wales Police spokesman refused to answer when asked if the force’s strategy could discourage riders from entering the region.
We'd like to invite you to exercise your right to enjoy the region's stunning roads within the law on September 13.

Totally agree with it! Count me in Ian.
The last ride-out led by H to Fairburn was excellent overall, but on a personal level it was tainted slightly by the niggling worry that we were going to get stopped by one of the Welsh Taliban even though we were riding sensibly, (as always!!), and one us could have been booked for the slightest infringement, i.e. number plate being too small.
Having read previous articles in MCN about how County Durham and Staffordshire police are trying to reduce accidents by education and other encouraging means and then the ridiculous article about how a police officer on his way to an emergency actually stopped, turned around and went after a biker whose only crime was to have an undersized number plate, I feel the biking community should show their disgust to the North Wales police. It'd be great if we could get the truckers on side as well, because I'll bet they'll be the next target.
If a parent adopted the same disciplinary attitude to their child as the North Wale Police apply to bikers, they'd be done for child cruelty!
Bikers of the world* unite and stand together! (*Well those of the UK at least!).

Sounds good.
It's the Sunday after PMC's Sunday rideout for September. I think we've already done the location, but if memory serves, the rideout was quite popular.
It will be interesting to see how North Wales Police respond to such a protest. I imagine they'd look rather silly trying to stop and check every biker.

I went out to North Wales last Sunday with SCAM and the only police I saw were dealing with an overturned trailer in Welshpool and I did over 240 miles. But yes I would be up for protesting against unjust police tacticts against law abiding motorcyclists.

Hi
There may be some light at the end of the tunnel
The Chief Constable of Wales, Richard Brunstrom retired in July and the Deputy CC, Clive Wolfendale is to leave in September to start a new job as Chief Exec for a drug and alcohol charity
Maybe there will be a change of policies with the new appointees

I've had quite a few people ask me if anything is happening on this, so I, (like a fool), have volunteered to lead a ride down to the Dragon's Cafe on the A55 and from there a ride down through the Snowdonia National Park to the 2nd rendevouz point, and I suppose back home.
At the moment I'm in the middle of planning out the route which stays away from motorways so all levels of rider can tag along, and will hopefully be able to post the ful details tomorrow.
In the meantime, I'm intending to leave the car park at the back of the Workies, (usual place), at 9.30 a.m.
For those interested in joining us it may be a good idea to bring along your documents, i.e. licence, insurance, log-book, M.O.T. etc. and please make sure your bike is 100% legal - legal pipes, correct sized number plate, no dark visors, or anything that can give Plod the chance to rub his hands with glee.

Looks like the weather is on your side for a change Rob, think you will need to leave promt at 9.30 though. I heard there was a couple of 49 c.c. Honda Step throughs joining you.
Not sure it would be a good idea to post your route as other unsalubrious Biker clubs may tag along getting a bad name etc.
Have a Good Run out!

brewery when we went on the tour, someone said that Keith had fell in to one of the vats, The manager told us he was ok he climed out three times to use the toilet!

Thanks Keith. I've got a couple of bungee straps that I can fasten to any slow movers to pull them along!
As you suggest Im going to set off at 9.30 prompt, and I'm going to take the chance of posting the route in another post.
