The originals are designed to reduce vibration felt through the handlebars. Their weight is a specific design feature, calculated for optimum vibration-reducing performance for the specific bike.
After-market bar-end weights are designed to “look good”, and tend not to be designed for specific bikes. If these are fitted then the appearance of the bike will be “enhanced” (it's a point of view) but there may be an increase in vibration and possible weave.
It's easy to take the end off but there is an added weight inside the bar as well that means taking off the grips and locating the retaining pin
