Poynton Community Challenge

It’s done now. - Poynton, or at least the majority of it’s residents, now know they have a bike club on their doorstep. Club members braved looming storm clouds to turn up at Poynton High School fields and take part in the “Poynton Community Challenge” - a new “fete style” event for Poynton which showcased clubs, activities and hobbies available in the area. From cakes to climbing walls, poetry to paramedics (on push bikes no less!) if it was do-able in Poynton it was there.

PMC members were roped in by the wily committee team on the scene, “seconding” the first arrivals to help with putting up gazebos, banners, exhibition panels and organise later arrivals bikes in an orderly fashion (grand job Phil).

Everyone from the club who got involved deserves a big hand - now all I’ve got to do is find out where they sell them! Click here

Seems lots of Poynton inhabitants folk were very surprised to find they had a bike club in their midst and that we were so nice - well done guys (and gals) - fooled ’em again. But seriously it’s important that the club creates a good (and true) impression of itself within the area.

The PMC stand at the Poynton Challenge event

The picture (taken by a fireman 30 metres up in the basket of a Simon Snorkel type engine - thanks for “asking” him to do it Gus) shows the PMC stand at circa 4pm in the afternoon, there are around 20 bikes displayed in front and to the side of the stand, earlier in the day there were even more. Think it was the free cheese burgers, chicken kebabs and Cumberland sausages that attracted most members.

Surprisingly, despite the weather forecast, rain didn’t stop play with the sun beating down mercilessly shining for most of the afternoon. Only towards the end of the event did it start raining heavily enough for PMCers to crowd under the gazebos and watch their bikes getting thoroughly soaked.
